◆“Japan in Your Classroom”: Meyuns Elementary School

Following the success of visits to GB Harris Elementary School, Melekeok Elementary School and Koror Elementary School, Ms. Hanako Kurosawa, Ms. Risa Tanimoto and Mr. Bunker Ruluked from the Embassy of Japan visited Meyuns Elementary School on March 18 and gave a one hour presentation to the fifth and eighth grade students to introduce Japan.

The presentation looked at Japanese cultural influences in Palau in areas like food, language, names, sports, and games. The presentation then tracked the events that molded Japan and Palau’s current relationship. Important dates were marked and included the establishment of diplomatic ties between Japan and Palau in 1994, the opening of an Embassy of Japan in Palau in 1999, and the 2013 appointment of Mr. Kazuhiro Tajiri as the second resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Palau.

At the end of the presentation, a quiz was held and prizes were awarded to the group that earned the most points. The school visit was then concluded with an origami making session of making Ninja Star. The Embassy hopes that its visit to MES was informative to the students and broadened their understanding of Japan and its relationship with Palau.
